New Rock the Block Summer Event Kicks Off Wednesday, June 3!

Howell MI – Music and food lovers unite this summer as the Howell Main Street Downtown Development Authority (DDA) brings Free live music, food, and excited people to downtown Howell for the all new Rock the Block series of summertime concerts, food events and family fun!
Scheduled for the first Wednesday of each summer month, June 3, July 1 and August 5 - Rock the Block will run from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring free live music at four downtown venues.  Venues for free live music include the Historic Howell Theater, Howell Opera House, Cobb Hall Patio, and 2FOGS Pub.  The event will take place rain or shine, as three of the four venues will be held indoors for June, and Cobb Hall’s patio will be covered with a tent.  Bringing your own chair is encouraged but not required for Cobb Hall’s music venue.

Looking to add even more excitement to your music-going experience? The Great Foodini, Renee Chodkowski, will be partnering with 3 local downtown restaurants to offer attendees a taste of ‘Best Bites on the Block’. ‘Best Bites’ will highlight scrumptious food specials from Howell’s favorite eateries. June’s featured eateries include 2FOGS Pub, the Chocolate Boutique, and Brunner’s Restaurant.

Block Rockers will also find special Rock the Block offerings from businesses throughout downtown, raffles, family activities and more.  “Best Bites” food samples as well as the business specials, etc. are available only to those who purchase a VIP pass. VIP passes can be purchased in advance online at www.rocktheblockhowell.org, or in-person at the Howell Main Street Office located at 118 W. Clinton St.  Passes will also be available for purchase or pick-up the day of the event at the tent set-up outside Kosins Glass.

According to Main Street DDA Director Cathleen Edgerly, Rock the Block was an idea born in the DDA Promotions Committee during last year’s Strategic Planning community sessions. The event is designed to provide more exciting family activities downtown while complimenting other popular Howell events such as the Concerts at the Courthouse, Melon Fest and the Michigan Balloon Challenge.  Of special note, Edgerly said, is that while it is important to the Main Street Promotions team that all the music will be free to the public, attendees are encouraged to enhance their time downtown and gain exclusive access to some Rock the Block events such as food tastings and business specials to help cover event costs and support downtown business owners. Included in the specials are some activities geared specifically for the kids, making Rock the Block a true family experience!

“We’ll have four packages available for those wanting to sample everything,” she explained.  The best option is the 3-day VIP Family Pass for $100, or only $75 if you buy it early on-line at www.rocktheblockhowell.org.  An Adult 3-day Pass is $50, Single Adult 1-day Pass is $25, and a Children’s Pass is only $10.”
