Howell Main Street is a program of the City of Howell Downtown Development Authority. The downtown relies on numerous volunteers to serve on committees and volunteer for events and other tasks. Howell Main Street is currently seeking committed volunteers to serve on the following four committees:
Involving all the downtown's stakeholders, getting everyone working towards a common goals, and driving the volunteer-based Main Street program. The fundamental organizational structure consists of a governing board and standing committees. Volunteers are coordinated and supported by a paid program director as well. This structure not only divides the workload and clearly delineates responsibilities, but also builds consensus and cooperation among the various stakeholders.
MEETINGS: The Outreach Committee meets the second Monday of the month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Howell Main Street DDA Office, 118 W. Clinton St. These meetings are open to the public.
Enhancing the downtown's physical environment by capitalizing on its best assets, such as historic buildings, and creating an inviting atmosphere through attractive window displays, parking areas, building improvements, streetscapes, and landscaping. The Main Street program also focuses on instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district, enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, and long-term planning.
MEETINGS: The Design Committee meets the second Wednesday of the month from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Howell Main Street DDA Office, 118 W. Clinton St. These meetings are open to the public.
Marketing the downtown's unique characteristics to residents, visitors, investors, and business owners. The Main Street program develops a positive promotional strategy through advertising, retail activities, special events, and marketing campaigns to encourage commercial activity and investment in the area.
MEETINGS: The Promotion Committee meets the third Thursday of the month at 9:15 a.m. at Frontal Lobe Coworking, 110 E. Grand River Ave., Lower Level.
Strengthening a community's existing economic base while also expanding and diversifying it. By helping existing businesses expand and recruiting new ones to respond to today's market, the Business Development Committee helps to convert unused space into productive property and engage our existing businesses.
MEETINGS: The Business Development Committee meets the third Thursday of the month at 9:15 a.m. at Frontal Lobe Coworking, 110 E. Grand River Ave., Lower Level.
