Howell celebrates Asian New Year with winter festival and 5K
Howell, MI – This Saturday, February 4, residents and visitors will experience a different type of New Year celebration as the 4th annual Howell Lunar New Year Festival returns to downtown! This fun, family-oriented event highlights the downtown Howell community while offering an educational twist on a cultural celebration. In addition, whether you are a serious or recreational runner, the popular Howell Dragon Run offers Howell students and adults the chance to get healthy and have fun with the 5K Run or Walk!
Activities for the Day include:
Dragon Run 5K: The Dragon Run 5K race steps off at 10:00 a.m. at Challenger Elementary and continues throughout the Howell Public School grounds. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age category. A special Dragon Trophy will also be unveiled and awarded to the top female, male and youth race winners! Entertainment - All entertainment takes place at the Howell Opera House including:
- 12:30 p.m.: Lion Dance & Blessing of the Businesses
- 1:45 p.m.: Youth Interactive Cooking Demonstration with Chef Tom Lin
- 3:00-4:00 p.m.: Crafts and Hands-On Asian-themed activities
- 4:00-4:30 p.m.: Godaiko Drummers Concert
- 6:30 p.m.: Lunar New Year 6 Course Dinner
Lunar New Year Six Course Dinner: Enjoy fine Asian cuisine from Food Network Cutthroat Kitchen Chef, Tom Lin, along with dishes provided by Downtown Howell Asian restaurants.
New: Celebrity Chefs Steve Bearden, Chef Jeffrey Bane (Cleary University), and Chef Blue (Simply Fresh Market) will be entertaining dinner guests with a friendly “Chopped” competition. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. This dinner is sold out for the 3rd year in a row!
