Muralists to paint downtown Howell buildings during Howell Art Project week

Howell artist Sara Hemmeke has been busy preparing plywood sheets for an upcoming community mural project.

Hemmeke is one of four artists who will work on murals that will be attached to the sides of buildings across Howell.

"Next week is going to be a big week for art with art happenings all week long downtown," Howell Main Street Inc. Chief Operating Officer and Howell Downtown Development Authority Director Cathleen Edgerly said.

The Howell Art Project will be a series of art events Monday through Saturday.

The other three artists will paint murals on buildings during the week. Other art happenings are in store all week long include chalk art, a blacksmith demonstration and more.

Hemmeke said anyone who wants to help her color in her mural is invited to grab a paint brush and work on one of several panels that will be put together and hung on the side of the Howell Main Street Inc./DDA building at 118 W. Clinton Street.

While the other murals will be completed by the end of next week, Hemmeke's community mural will be attached to the building in September before a related art walk event.
